Activating your UMS Account - New Hire

If you have never accessed your University of Maine System (UMS) @maine.edu account listed in your welcome email or are not sure if you can log into the account, follow the steps below.

WARNING: These instructions DO NOT apply to students or student employees.

Instructions

To activate your @maine.edu account:

  1. Go to the webpage: accounts.maine.edu
INFO: If you think you know your password, please select “UMS account information and maintenance” from the bulleted list. If you can log in, your account is already active, and you can return to your welcome email to continue the onboarding process.
  1. Select “Recover a lost password”
  2. Enter your Employee ID number and username (your email address without @maine.edu) from your welcome email 
  3. Select “Use external email” from the drop-down
  4. Click "Continue"
  5. On the next screen, enter the following verification information:
    • Your employee ID number
    • Your username
    • Your date of birth
    • The external email address you used during your application process
  6. Click "Initiate Password Recovery"
  7. Check your external email account for an email with the subject of “UMS Account Activation Key”
  8. Click on the link in the email and enter your employee ID number into the form
  9. Click "Continue"
  10. Re-enter your verification information
  11. Enter your new password twice
  12. Select three security questions and enter answers that will help to identify you if you need to reset your password in the future

Your account is now active! Return to your welcome email and continue the onboarding process.
