Warning to check for updates on your computer

Summary

How to respond to the warning Check for updates on your computer

Body

Warning Message:

Check for updates on your computer

Always install the latest updates to enhance your computer's security and performance

Solution

  • If the date for Updates were installed: below the warning message is less than 4 weeks, then wait another week. Windows updates are pushed out to 2 groups of test computers before they are made available to the remaining University-owned machines which can take 2-3 weeks depending if some of the updates have reported issues, so University computers may be current for updates for our network, but be a little behind Microsoft's latest update release.
  • If the date for Updates were installed: below the warning message is more than 5 weeks, click the link to Check online for updates from Windows Update to manually check and receive updates from Microsoft's Windows Update servers. The machine may have lost its connection to the UMS's update server, or a new version of the Windows Update client has not been installed which prevented the computer from receiving updates from the University's update server. The manual update will catch the computer up to date, which often resolves the issue. If the computer fails to receive updates again after the following month, open a ticket in JIRA Service Desk.

Environment

  • UMS managed Windows 10
