How Do I Enroll in Multi-factor Authentication using the Duo Mobile App on my Android device?

Setting up Duo Mobile on your Android phone or tablet lets you approve sign-in requests and protects your University of Maine System (UMS) account with multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Instructions

Step 1: Install Duo Mobile on your Android device

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Store.
2. Search for and install Duo Mobile.
3. Leave the app installed but closed for now.

Step 2: Start enrollment on your computer

1. Go to accounts.maine.edu/mfa
2. Sign in with your UMS account if you are prompted to.
3. Select "Enroll."
4. On the "Protect your University of Maine System Account" screen, select "Start Setup."
5. When asked "What type of device are you adding?" choose "Tablet."

6. When asked "What type of tablet are you adding?" choose "Android."
7. Select "I have the Duo Mobile App installed."

Step 3: Activate the app on your Android device

1. Open Duo Mobile and select "Set up account."
   • If you do not see "Set up account," select "+ Add" instead.
2. Select "Use QR Code."
   • If you are unable to scan the QR code, select "Get an activation link instead."
3. Scan the QR Code displayed on your computer with your Android device.
4. You will see a "University of Maine System" confirmation screen, click "Save."
5. When activation succeeds, a green checkmark appears on the screen.
6. Back on your computer, select "Continue."
7. MFA is now active on your account.
