Google Transfer allows for emails and Google Drive documents and files to be moved from a school owned account to a different Google account. (More information here: Google Account Help: Google Transfer)
For all other data, please use Google Takeout (takeout.google.com).
If a user does not meet eligibility standards as stated in the
Account Life Cycle policy, their account will be de-provisioned. The account holder will typically be notified a month in advance, providing them ample time to move any files or emails they would like to keep.
Instructions
Steps to transfer content:
- Log into maine.edu account on Google.com.
- Go to takeout.google.com/transfer
OR:
- Log into maine.edu account on Google.com.
- Select account from top right corner.
- Select "Manage your Google Account."
- Select "Start transfer."
- Enter new email address to send the content to and select "Send Code."
- On the new Google account, there will be an email to obtain a confirmation code.
- Go back to the "Transfer your content" page on the school account, enter the code, and select "verify."
- Choose the content to be copied, the select "Start Transfer."
If the user gets the error message "Transfer Your Content is only available to authorized G Suite for Education Accounts. Please contact your administrator, or sign in with another Google Account." they will need to double check they have switched back to their maine.edu account. One way to avoid this issue is to open the maine.edu account in a separate browser.
Details about the copy process
- The copy process usually happens within a few hours, but it can take up to a week.
- Copied files might appear in batches on your Google Account during the copy process.
- When your files are finished copying, you'll get an email at your Gmail address.
