Security Risk: Microsoft has blocked macros from running because the source of the file is untrusted

When opening a file from the internet or an email attachment that contains macros, users will receive the error "Security Risk: Microsoft has blocked macros from running because the source of the file is untrusted." Starting in late spring of 2022, Microsoft changed the default behavior of Office applications to block macros in files from the internet. 

Solution

In order to be able to enable macros in a document from the internet, use one of the options below:

• Save the file to a trusted location 
• For files on OneDrive or SharePoint, Open in Desktop App
• Unclear the Unblock check box on the General tab of the Properties dialog for the file to make it a Trusted document
• If file(s) from a network shares
  1. make sure the network share is mapped by fully qualified Domain Name (fqdn), instead of IP
  2. Add it to your Trusted Sites list
     1. Open Control Panel
     2. Click on Internet Options
     3. Select Change Security Settings
     4. Uncheck the box at the bottom of the Window for Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this Zone
     5. In the Add this website to the zone field, type in "file://" and the fqdn of the server the file share is hosted on (ex. file://oro01-fs02.uad.maine.edu) and click Add
