"Request a File in SharePoint"

Summary

How to Request a file to be uploaded to drop-box style folder in SharePoint

Body

"Request a File" is now available in OneDrive and SharePoint. It allows a folder owner to send users a special link to a folder that will allow them to upload a file to the folder, but not edit or view what is inside the folder.

WARNING:  This can lead to security concerns as not all users with the rights to create links may understand the risks associated with the anonymous nature of the links created.  New requests for Anonymous Anyone Links should consider using a 2nd SP site for these links.

Instructions

WARNING: Notifications that you have received a file may go to your SPAM folder in Gmail.

INFO: If the SharePoint site has sensitive data and/or the site owners want to have significantly different access permissions to the uploaded files, then it is recommended that a separate SharePoint be created for the folders where the files will be uploaded.

Environment

  • SharePoint
