Microsoft Teams is a unified communication and collaboration platform that is available to faculty, staff and students, but is NOT currently supported by the University Help Desk and does not have all the same features and functions in our environment as in some other environments.

Who can use Microsoft Teams?

Faculty, staff, and students can use Microsoft Teams, but it is currently NOT supported by the University Help Desk.

What are some of the features that will NOT work in our environment?

  • Calling Features
  • Outlook Calendar integrations and Planner
  • Microsoft To-Dos
  • Meetings*
    • The Teams built-in Meeting app has does not have full functionality in our environment, but there is a bot for Zoom integration to allow launch and schedule of Zoom meeting from within Teams. See Using the Microsoft Teams Integration

What features generally work in our environment?

  • Chat
  • File Storage
    • Teams file storage is done in SharePoint. There is some support provided for the SharePoint file storage.
  • Web page tabs

What happens to the files for a Team if the Team gets deleted?

The SharePoint site that they are actually stored in gets deleted when the Team gets deleted, so any files stored in the Team get deleted. That SharePoint site has the same recovery window as a regular SharePoint site.
