Institutional Data Training Proposal
Presentation Slides
Proposal Summary: Create a learning module in UMS Academy containing an introductory training video which would be required training for employees with enhanced data access (initially defined by gaining access to UMS Power BI Workspaces).
Background: Several recommendations came forward during the 2018 focus groups with data users that pointed toward the need for additional training on the topic of data access and ethical usage, and training competency levels based on elevated access, sensitivity, or privileges. Some departments are required to, or choose to, supplement training in addition to the annually required Security Awareness training; however, the focus groups expressed the desire for supplemental training similar to that described in this proposal to be consistent across the System. Comments/Questions
An Introduction to Institutional Data Training video was created and added to the DG Moments YouTube channel. It is also accessible in a Google Form which includes the video as well as two long-answer assessment questions. Individuals requesting a Power BI Pro license using the license request application form will be forwarded to the Institutional Training Google Form to watch the video and complete the assessment. Form responses are reviewed by the Director for Institutional Data Management who emails the Power BI administrator to approve the Power BI license request training requirement.
