Unable to print from lab computer - UMS-FindMe queue failed to install

Summary

How to troubleshoot issue with UMS-FindMe queue failing to install on lab machines

Body

There have been issues reported by the USM Learning Commons, that users are unable to print because the UMS-FindMe queue fails to install. It appears to have a few causes and the solution in each case is covered below.

Solution

  1. Right-click on the Print Deploy icon in the bottom-right of the desktop (aka "system tray"), then select Refresh. It looks like a green printer and you may need to click ^ to see it.
    • WARNING: It can take 90 seconds to 2 minutes on some lab machines after first login for the Desktop and all the icons to fully load and be ready.
  2. If  1 above did not resolve your issue, use the Windows search box to search for "Check for Updates". Open it and then click the button to Check for Updates. Restart the computer and then log-in and try to print.

If the above solutions did not work, open a ticket with the Help Desk.

Environment

  • Windows 11 (University-managed)
  • Managed Print Services
  • PaperCut
