Grouper

Grouper is an enterprise group and access management tool used by the University of Maine System to define and manage group memberships for authorization to IT systems and services. It supports role-based access control by enabling departments and application administrators to delegate group management without compromising security.

Groups managed in Grouper are often used to control access to file shares, learning management systems, VPNs, applications, and other services that rely on institutional identity for permissioning. Grouper integrates with the UMS identity infrastructure, ensuring that access changes are consistently applied and centrally audited.

Access to Grouper is permission-based and typically granted to IT professionals and data stewards responsible for access control.
