Password Recover / Reset - UMS ID

This document outlines how to change your UMS Single Sign-On (SSO) password used for Mainestreet, Gmail, Brightspace, etc.

Details​​​​

  1. Navigate to the UMS User Account Management page.
  2. Select the "Recover a lost password" link. 
    • You will be asked to supply your student id number and your username, and select whether you want to use your identification questions or an external email account to complete the recovery process
    • Your Student id number is Seven digits in length and typically begins with a Zero
    • You can find your student identification number on Transcripts, Student bills, Campus bookstore receipts, and other documents from the University.
      WARNING: Your username is the beginning of your email address, do not include @maine.edu. Your username must be entered in all lowercase letters. You will receive an error message if your username is entered incorrectly.
  3. If you select "Use Identification Questions":
    • You will need to answer 2 forgotten password questions. 
    • If your answers match, you will be allowed to reset your password.
  4. If you select "Use External Email":
    1. Reenter your ID number
    2. Enter your birth date
    3. Enter an external email address associated with your account.  External email address would have previously been collected in the following ways:
      • For all accounts: during your initial account activation
      • For student accounts: during your application process
      • For employee accounts: during your HireTouch application process.
    4. You will receive an email link that will allow you to reset your password and identity questions.
  5. Once you have reset your password it may take up to an hour before you are able to log in.
