This article explains how to recover a lost University of Maine System (UMS) password.
What You Will Need
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- Your 7-digit Student or Employee ID number (EMPLID or MaineStreet ID)
- Your UMS username (the part of your email before @maine.edu)
- Access to your recovery method:
- Your security question answers or
- Your recovery email account
- Your date of birth (MM/DD/YYYY format) if using email recovery
- Access to a secure device with an internet connection
INFO: You must have previously set up security questions or a recovery email during account activation or a prior recovery.
Instructions
- Go to the User Account Management page at accounts.maine.edu
- Click Recover a lost password.
- Review the information on the page, including what you will need and the password requirements.
- Enter your Student or Employee ID number (EMPLID, MaineStreet ID).
- Do not include spaces or dashes.
- Enter your UMS username (the part before @maine.edu).
- Select a recovery method from the drop-down menu.
- Click Continue.
Option 1: Identification Questions
- Enter your Student or Employee ID number
- Enter your UMS username
- Answer your security (identification) questions.
- These were created when you activated or previously recovered your account.
- Review the password requirements.
- Enter your new password.
- Enter the new password again to confirm.
- You may use the eye icon to view what you typed.
- Click Continue.
- If successful, you will see a confirmation message stating that your password has been set.
Option 2: Use External Email
- Enter your Student or Employee ID number
- Enter your UMS username
- Enter your date of birth in this format: MM/DD/YYYY (two-digit month, two-digit day, four-digit year).
- Enter your recovery email address.
- The recovery email was provided during activation or retrieved from your application information.
- It must not be the email address of the account being recovered.
- For aux accounts, you may use your primary UMS email address.
- Click Continue.
- Check your recovery email for a message from accounts@maine.edu with the subject line “UMS Account activation key.”
WARNING: This message is often delivered to Spam or Junk folders. Check those folders if you do not see the email in your inbox.
- Click the link provided in the email.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to set your new password.
INFO: After clicking the link, the remaining steps are the same as the
Account Activation process.
