Access OneDrive for work or school from your University-managed device(s)

Instructions on how to Access OneDrive for work or school from your University-owned Windows, MacOS and iPad device(s).

Windows

OneDrive for work or school will be deployed to your University-managed Windows device. (If needed, it is also available for download here).

  1. Open up OneDrive for work or school by typing OneDrive in the Windows Search bar and selecting the OneDrive App
  2. then Open.
  • If prompted to log in, use your UMS email and password.
  1. Then you will be taken to the folder with your OneDrive for work or school files. 
Within your One Drive - University of Maine System folder for OneDrive, you may also see another University of Maine System folder which contains files from Departmental SharePoint sites. There may also be folders with "from Box" in the name, these folders contain personal and departmental files that were migrated from Box for you.
  • OneDrive for work or school has been configured to pull down files that you need, but keep the rest in the cloud.
  • If you see a cloud icon in the status column for the file listing in File Explorer, the file is in the cloud and has not been downloaded to the local computer yet.
  • If it has a green circle with a checkmark in it under the status column it is on the local computer and has been synced.

macOS

If your device is enrolled in JAMF, OneDrive application is already installed on your Mac.

  1. Open the application
  2. Login with University email credentials if prompted
  3. Then it will open up the folder with the files in OneDrive for work or school.
There may also be folders with "from Box" in the name, these folders contain personal files that were migrated from Box for you.
  • The application is configured for On-Demand syncing by default.
  • If you open a file it will download it locally and sync up any changes you make to it. Otherwise, the files will remain available in the cloud.
  • When you view the list of files in OneDrive for work or school in a Finder window
    • There will be a little cloud icon to the right of files in the cloud and a green circle with a checkmark to the right of files that have been downloaded locally and are synced with the files in the OneDrive for work or school cloud.

iPad

OneDrive mobile app is supported on iOS 12 or later.

OneDrive is available from the Self-Service App on iPad enrolled in JAMF.

  1. Once installed, open the app and tap Sign in.
  2. At the first prompt, enter your UMS username followed by @maine.edu (do this no matter what your email address is).
  3. At the password prompt, enter your UMS password. 
  4. Do not click anything on the sign-in pages other than Next and Sign in. 
  5. You can now view files stored in your Microsoft OneDrive for work or school cloud storage.
To open a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint document, you must have Word, Excel or PowerPoint installed on your device. 

Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps are also available from the Self-Service app, although some campuses like USM already have them installed by default.

  1. After installing Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, open the app.
  2. At the first prompt, enter your UMS username followed by @maine.edu (do this no matter what your email address is).
  3. At the password prompt, enter your UMS password. 
  4. Do not click anything on the sign-in pages other than Next and Sign in.
