This document outlines the most common FAQ, troubleshooting, and help questions regarding University iPhones & iPads and how to resolve them.

INFO: The Find my phone and passcode settings are required to be in use on all University provided iPhones & iPads per University Policy

How do I turn on Find my Phone?

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap your name, then tap Find My [device].
    1. If you want to be able to find your lost device on a map, make sure that Location Services is turned on. To do this, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services, and turn on Location Services.
  3. Tap Find My [device], then turn on the following;
    1. Find My [device]
    2. Find My network
    3. Send Last Location

Set the Passcode

  1.  Go to Settings, then Tap Face ID & Passcode
  2. Tap Turn Passcode On
  3. To view options for creating a password, tap Passcode Options. After you set a passcode, you can also add Face ID or Touch ID

How to create a Contact

  1. Press Contacts.
  2. Press the new contact icon (+).
  3. Press First name and key in the first name.
  4. Press Last name and key in the last name.
  5. Press add phone
    1. You must add the complete 10 digit phone number including Area Code
  6. Press Phone and key in the required phone number. ...
  7. Press Done.

How to create an Apple ID when you step up your device (or set it up later in the App Store)

  1. Tap "Forgot password or don't have an Apple ID?"
  2. Tap Create a Free Apple ID"
  3. Select your birthday and enter your name. Tap Next.
  4. Tap "Use your current email address", You must use your @maine.edu  email address.
  5. Follow the onscreen steps to verify your email address, create a strong password, set your device region, and set up two-factor authentication. If you choose to skip this step, you'll be prompted to do this later in Settings.

Adding a University email account to your iPhone or iPad device.

  1. Go to Settings > Mail, then tap Accounts
  2. Tap Add Account, then select Google, add your @maine.edu, it will want to launch your browser to go to google.com to sign in
  3. Enter your email address and password, this will then take you to our UMS sign on window, login
  4. If you see Next, tap Next and wait for Mail to verify your account
  5. Select the options you want ie;mail, contacts, calendar, notes, then tap Save

My phone is lost or stolen, what do I do?

  1. Attempt to locate your device using the "Find my Phone" feature
    1. Apple iCloud Find my Phone website: https://www.icloud.com/find
    2. You will need access to your @maine.edu email
      1. If you don't have access to your email, contact the Help Desk for assistance
  2. If you are unable to locate your device, contact cellular.services@maine.edu to report your device lost or stolen
    1. Report your device with University Public Safety in case your device is found
  3. Once reported, Cellular Services will contact the vendor and work with the user to resolve

What do I do if my screen is cracked?

  1. Notify cellular.services@maine.edu to determine warranty status and replacement options

Setting up your Voice mail

  1. From a Home screen, navigate to: Phone app > Voicemail.
    1. Voicemail app can be found in the lower right corner by default
  2. Tap. Set Up Now
  3. Enter a password then tap. Done
  4. Re-enter the password then tap. Done
  5. Tap. Custom. to record a greeting
  6. Tap. Record. to begin
  7. When finished, tap. Stop
  8. To complete, tap 'Done' or 'Save'

Set up Personal Hotspot

  1. Go to Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot or Go to Settings > Personal Hotspot
  2. Tap the slider next to Allow Others to Join.(the bar will be green)
