PDF Accessibility

University of Maine System websites are required to provide documents in a format that is accessible to persons with disabilities.  This includes Portable Document Format (PDF) documents posted to websites (or shared with groups via email).  PDF documents commonly contain serious accessibility barriers. The following resources are intended to help you create and post accessible PDF documents.

• Adobe Acrobat Pro includes an accessibility checker and tools to fix many PDF accessibility issues (External Site). Often, however, it is best to fix the source document of the PDF. If you would like to purchase Adobe Acrobat Pro for your university-provided computer, please contact the IT Help Desk.
• For anyone needing Acrobat or other Adobe products on a non-University device, they can log in and download from this website: Adobe Creative Cloud. University devices can download from the preinstalled Software Center.
