Sending a Fax using GMail

Using the Fax over IP (FoIP) Service, all UMS Employees can send a fax using GMail. 

INFO: This service will only work for UMS Employees using an @maine.edu GMail account.
WARNING: Faxing using Gmail is not HIPAA compliant

Instructions

  1. Compose a new email message
  2. In the Recipients field, enter the phone number for the destination of the fax in the format <10-digit phone number>@fax.maine.edu.
    • Example:  2075613546@fax.maine.edu
  3. Compose the cover page for the fax. Anything in the body of the email will be placed on the cover page of the fax.
  4. Drag & drop any documents you would like to fax into the email or click the Attach Files button and select the files.
    • Supported formats include PDF, TXT, HTML, JPG, GIF, RTF, MS Word DOC and DOCX, MS Excel XLS and XLSX and Powerpoint PPT and PPTX.
  5. To send the fax click Send.  You will receive an email back indicating whether the fax was sent successfully.  Depending on the size of the fax being sent this may take some time.
