Forum Notes

  • Many changes and much work has been accomplished. See slide 5 for more details.
  • Changed from SQR to PBI and formatted specifically to transfer as-is to IPEDS
  • Changed reporting date criteria to July 1-June 30 instead of census to align accurately with IPEDS criteria
  • Merged UMM and UM for 2021-2022 and onward IPEDS cycles
  • Addd calculations for credit hours and FTE to account for UMS methodology of counting headcount, credits, and FTE for inter-institutional cross-listed courses
  • Published to Census DSIT Reports app (summary version which is aggregated) and a detailed report is also available on the IR Share app, which has extra pages with more information.
  •  Miki gave a tour of the report.
    • Slicers can be used to change institution, IPEDS year, and full/part time
    • More advanced slicers for IR Share version of IPEDS 12-month report on additional pages for a narrow audience (IPEDS keyholders)
      • Can also get to row-level data in IR Share report
      • Validation pages were added to check the data
    • At the bottom of the form, there is a link to a web page with calculations, definitions, etc.
    • Documentation is as transparent as possible
  • Next steps, pending feedback, will be to forward to the DGC for final approval and add the certification seal and documentation in our UMS Index of Reports and Power BI.

Comments & Questions

  • Degree-seeking UMA students are showing up at USM when they take courses as non-degree students as degree-seeking students in credit hour calculations. How should this be handled in the future?
    • This will be an ongoing discussion as we have more and more cross-listed courses, as well as future combined degrees.
    • If a student is degree-seeking at one UMS institution, should they be considered degree-seeking at all institutions where they are enrolled?
  • How will future issues be addressed? Will the group be reassembled?
    • No formal procedure yet, but will depend on the report. For IPEDS reports, it will be the IPEDS keyholders who will be contacted for modification discussions.
    • Keyholders review the surveys every year, and will assemble to determine how to add to the report if there are changes.
  • In order to meet the goal of having fewer ad hoc requests for this data, can we make this Power BI report accessible to a wider audience?
    • Power BI Governance group and the DSIT team need to consider how to make this possible.
