Adobe Print as Image

An Adobe PDF may print as gibberish or have PostScript errors like Offending command when printed using a Xerox printer. This is due to a corrupt or improperly interpreted embedded image. The workaround is to Print as Image.

Instructions 

Windows 

  1. With the PDF file opened in Adobe, click on [File] on the toolbar, and then select [Print] from the menu. 
  2. Select desired printer from pull down menu
  3. Click on the Advanced button
  4. Check the box for Print as Image and then click OK
    • WARNING: If Print as Image is grayed out, check if GrayScale is checked in the Main Print Settings window. Uncheck it and then see if Print as image is now available.
  5. If necessary, click on the [Properties] button to change settings from the defaults, such as two-sided printing, or stapling, and then click OK to save the settings.
  6. Click OK to print the PDF document

macOS

  1. With the PDF file opened in Adobe, click on File on the toolbar, and then select Print from the menu. The Print window will be displayed.
  2. Select desired printer from pull down menu
  3. Click on the Advanced button
  4. Check the box for Print as Image and then click OK
    • WARNING: If Print as Image is grayed out, check if GrayScale is checked in the Main Print Settings window. Uncheck it and then see if Print as image is now available.
  5. If necessary, select any required settings from the pull-down menus on the Print window
  6. Click on Print to print the PDF document.
