This article explains how to change your University of Maine System (UMS) account password.
What You Will Need
- Your UMS username (the beginning of your email address without "@maine.edu")
- Your current password (must not be expired more than 180 days)
- Access to a secure device with an internet connection
WARNING: If your password has been expired for more than 180 days, you will not be able to use this process. Use the
password recovery process instead.
Instructions
- Go to the User Account Management page at accounts.maine.edu.
- Click Change your password.
- Enter your username.
- Your username is the beginning of your email address without "@maine.edu".
- Example: If your email address is bob.ross@maine.edu, your username is bob.ross.
- Enter your current password.
- To view what you typed, click the eye icon.
- Password must not be expired more than 180 days.
- Click Login.
- Review the password requirements displayed on the screen.
- Enter your old password again if prompted.
- Enter your new password.
- You may click the eye icon to view the password before submitting.
- Your password must:
- Be at least 8 characters long
- Include at least one capital letter
- Include at least one number
- Not begin with a number
- Enter your new password again to confirm.
- Click Continue to complete the change.
If successful, you will see a confirmation message stating that your password was successfully changed.
INFO: It may take up to 15 minutes for your new password to sync across all UMS systems. You may need to sign out and back in on devices or applications using your old password.
