MaineStreet Logging In - Best Practices

Summary

Best practices information for users that log into MaineStreet PeopleSoft environments on a regular basis

Body

MaineStreet and its three core applications, Campus Solutions, HR, and Financials, are powered by Oracle's PeopleSoft application. Due to the way that PeopleSoft manages user login and access, there are a few steps, documented below, that users can take to ensure the best experience when using MaineStreet.

Detailed Information

  1. Always log out when done with your session - Instead of just closing the browser tab or window, take the extra step of clicking on the menu icon (three lines) and clicking on "Sign Out". This helps ensure that your cookies and session information have been successfully cleaned up when you next log into MaineStreet.
  2. Make sure any existing open MaineStreet tabs or windows are closed - When working with multiple browser tabs or windows open, it's easy to not realize that an old MaineStreet session might still be open in another tab or window. When running into issues logging into MaineStreet, make sure that you have closed any of these other places where MaineStreet might still be open. Having an older session open in a tab can cause log in "collisions" resulting in errors or other unexpected behavior.
  3. Delete temporary Internet files and cookies - MaineStreet and PeopleSoft are highly dependent upon the temporary Internet files and cookies used by your browser. If you run into recurring issues with logging into MaineStreet, it may make sense to clean up those files on a regular basis. More information on how to do this for your browser can be found in this article: Clearing Cookies and Temp Files
  4. Use a private or incognito browser tab or window - If all else fails, you can try using a private browsing window or tab to access MaineStreet. Depending on your browser, this might be called "Incognito" or "InPrivate", etc. This technique is especially helpful when needing to access multiple MaineStreet environments simultaneously, or when utilizing one of the test or reporting instances.
  5. Try logging in using the old link - Sometimes the Launchpad icon or "Student Center" link in the MaineStreet dropdown in Mycampus do not function. In that case, please try the "Classic Student Center" link on this webpage: MaineStreet Links
