Overview and guidelines

The Pack Chat subsite has several customized blog settings that apply to the entire subsite. A few settings can be overridden on a per-post basis, including the sidebar, author info/bio, and posts carousel displays.

Show or hide the sidebar

By default, the sidebar is hidden, but you can choose to display a specific sidebar on an individual post; the sidebar must be created before you can select it.

Step 1: Log in to WordPress

Begin by logging into WordPress with your maine.edu credentials. Use the "My Sites" menu in the upper left corner of your screen to find the subsite where you want to upload an image.

Step 2: Launch the edit screen

Open the edit screen for the Post you want to update.

Step 3: Find the Post Options settings The Post Options section is isolated from the content around it

Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the "Post Options" heading. If the section is collapsed, click the small arrow on the far right to open it.

Step 4: Update the Show/Hide Sidebar field

Green arrows point to the "Show Sidebar" option and the "Choose Sidebar" fieldBy default, each Post should have "Theme Options Default" selected in the Show/Hide Sidebar field. If you want to display a specific sidebar on a single Post, change this setting to "Show Sidebar".

If you change your mind and want to hide the sidebar, return to this field and select "Theme Options Default".

Step 5: Update the Choose Sidebar field

The default sidebar is the "Primary Sidebar". If you want to display a different sidebar, select it from the "Choose Sidebar" field list.

Step 6: Save the changes

Click the "Save draft" or "Update" button at the top of the page, depending on whether or not the Post has been published.

Hide the author info/bio block

By default, the author bio displays in a box at the bottom of each post, which can be disabled on individual Posts.

Step 1: Log in to WordPress

Begin by logging into WordPress with your maine.edu credentials. Use the "My Sites" menu in the upper left corner of your screen to find the subsite where you want to upload an image.

Step 2: Launch the edit screen

Open the edit screen for the Post you want to update.

Step 3: Find the Post Options settings The Post Options section is isolated from the content around it

Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the "Post Options" heading. If the section is collapsed, click the small arrow on the far right to open it.

Step 4: Update the Author Info field

A green arrow points to the "No" optionBy default, each Post should have "Default" selected in the Author Info field. This means a block will appear at the bottom of the Post with the Post author's name, recent posts, and a bio.  If you want to hide this block on a specific Post, select "No".

If you change your mind and want to show the author block again, return to this field and select "Default".

Step 5: Save the changes

Click the "Save draft" or "Update" button at the top of the page, depending on whether or not the Post has been published.

Hide or change the posts carousel block

Step 1: Log in to WordPress

Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the "Post Options" heading. If the section is collapsed, click the small arrow on the far right to open it.

Step 4: Update the Posts Carousel field

Green arrows point to "No", "Yes - Display Similar Posts", and the "Carousel Title" field.By default, each Post should have "Default" selected in the Posts Carousel field, which displays recent blog posts from across all categories. You can change up the display on individual posts by selecting "Yes – Display Similar Posts". If you want to hide the carousel completely, choose "No".

If you change your mind and want to display the Recent Posts version of the carousel, return to this field and select "Default".

Step 5: Save the changes

Click the "Save draft" or "Update" button at the top of the page, depending on whether or not the Post has been published.
