Test Your CAS Application After the SSO Cutover (Microsoft Entra)

This article explains how CAS (Central Authentication Service) application owners should test their applications after the transition to the new Single Sign-On (SSO) system, Microsoft Entra, on May 15, 2026.

Instructions

Before You Begin

  1. For applications you are responsible for, confirm ownership with your Director of Campus Technology or the SSO/MFA Modernization Project Team if you have not already done so.
  2. Confirm the current status of each application you are responsible for:
    • Active (in use)
    • Inactive (no longer in use)
  3. Ensure the appropriate application owner is available to test after the cutover.
  4. If the owner is unavailable, assign a backup tester.
INFO: Testing after the cutover confirms that your application is working correctly on the new SSO system before users return to work.

Testing Availability

The SSO cutover will begin around 6:30 PM on Friday, May 15, 2026. Plan to test your application once the cutover is complete.

  • Date: Friday, May 15, 2026
  • Test after: 7:30 PM EST
WARNING: Do not test before 7:30 PM on May 15. The cutover will not be complete until that time, and results may not reflect the final system state.

Steps to Test Your Application

  1. After 7:30 PM, close all browser windows.
  2. Reopen your browser to start a fresh session.
  3. Navigate to your application.
  4. Sign in using your UMS account.
  5. Confirm the application loads and functions as expected.
  6. Check for:
    • Login failures
    • Error messages
    • Unexpected behavior
WARNING: If you do not restart your browser before testing, cached sessions may affect your results.

Reporting Issues

If you experience any issues, contact the SSO/MFA Modernization Project Team immediately by emailing sso-mfa-project-group@maine.edu.

Please include:

  • Application name
  • Application login URL
  • Description of the issue
  • Uncropped screenshots (if available)
  • Time of occurrence

Why This Matters

Testing your application after the cutover is vital to UMS operations. Issues that are not identified and reported quickly could affect user access when people return to work Monday morning.

WARNING: Applications that are not tested may experience login issues that go undetected until users report them.
