To sync Microsoft OneDrive for work or school files with your Mac, you'll need to get the Microsoft OneDrive app from the Mac App Store. After you have installed it, you need to make several configuration changes using the Terminal window.

If you're not familiar with or comfortable using Terminal windows, it is recommended that you wait until a later release of the Microsoft OneDrive app for Mac that will natively support Office 365 accounts. For more, see Sync files with Microsoft OneDrive on Mac OS X found here.

If you've never had an individual account signed into Microsoft OneDrive, follow these steps. If you already have an individual Microsoft OneDrive account signed in, scroll down to Section Two of these Instructions.

Section one:

  1. From a Terminal window, type the following and tap Return:

  • defaults write com.microsoft.OneDrive-mac DefaultToBusinessFRE -bool True

  1. From a Terminal window, type the following and tap Return:

  • defaults write com.microsoft.OneDrive-mac EnableAddAccounts -bool True

  1. To start Microsoft OneDrive, press Command and the Spacebar to launch a Spotlight query.
  • Type Microsoft OneDrive.

  • Click Sign In.

  1. At the first prompt, enter your UMS username followed by @maine.edu (do this no matter what your email address is).
  2. At the password prompt, enter your UMS password. 
  3. Do not click anything on the sign-in pages other than Next and Sign in.
  4. After you have successfully logged in, follow the prompt to choose a Microsoft OneDrive for work or school folder location.
  • This folder will be kept in sync with your Microsoft OneDrive for work or school storage; changes you make in one place will sync with the other.
  1. Follow the prompt to either download all files and folders in your Microsoft OneDrive for work or school storage, or choose which folders to sync.
  2. When you're ready to finish the setup, click Next.

Section Two:
When you have an individual account signed into Microsoft OneDrive:

  1. Click the Microsoft OneDrive cloud icon on your Menu bar and select Quit Microsoft OneDrive.
  2. From a Terminal window, type the following and tap Return:

  • defaults write com.microsoft.OneDrive-mac EnableAddAccounts -bool True
  1. To start Microsoft OneDrive, press Command and the Spacebar to launch a Spotlight query.
  • Type Microsoft OneDrive
  1. Click the Microsoft OneDrive cloud icon in your Menu bar, and select Preferences.
  2. From the Account tab, click Add a work or school. Click Use Another Account.
  3. At the first prompt, enter your UMS username followed by @maine.edu (do this no matter what your email address is).
  4. At the password prompt, enter your UMS password. 
  5. Do not click anything on the sign-in pages other than Next and Sign in.
  6. After you have successfully logged in, follow the prompt to choose a Microsoft OneDrive for work or school folder location.
  • This folder will be kept in sync with your Microsoft OneDrive for work or school storage; changes you make in one place will sync with the other.
  1. Follow the prompt to either download all files and folders in your Microsoft OneDrive for work or school storage, or choose which folders to sync.
  2. When you're ready to finish the setup, click Next.
