How do I register to the Guest Network?

Instructions to connect to UMS Guest Network on UMS campuses.

MaineEDU-Guest: does NOT require maine.edu account

  1. Select the MaineEDU-Guest network in your wireless setup
  2. Open the browser and you will be redirected to page with terms and conditions.
  3. If the registration page does not auto load, go to mail.maine.edu to force the registry page
  4. Accept terms to register and use the Guest network.

MaineEDU-Guest has limited Internet access

Firewall Policy

NAT outside network (where guest users are "seen" from): 209.222.219.0/24
The following protocols and port numbers are allowed outbound from guest (everything else is denied)

  • ICMP Echo ("ping")
  • TCP and UDP port 53 (DNS) Customized DNS settings are not supported.
  • TCP port 80,443 (HTTP,HTTPS) (Web).
  • UDP port 123 (NTP)
  • TCP 22 (SSH)
  • TCP 3389 (RDP/Windows Remote Desktop)
  • TCP and UDP port 1194 (OpenVPN)
  • TCP and UDP ports 500, 4500, and 10000 (other VPN protocols)
  • TCP 25565 (Minecraft)

Environment

Web & Wi-Fi Network enabled devices

Risk

Limited Internet and network access, limited time usage of Guest Network (times out after 24 hours). Will need to re-register after that time period.
