Basic Troubleshooting

  • Mouse and Keyboard
    • One or both aren’t working.
      • Make sure the power switch is turned on.
        • On a keyboard, this is typically located on the top right.
        •  You can find the mouse’s switch on the underside.
      • If both are turned on and still not operating, it could be a case of bad batteries. Give Media Services a call and we'll come to you.
  • Computer
    • The in-room computer isn’t being displayed.
      • Confirm that the computer is turned on.
        • The power button will be illuminated.
        • If it is illuminated, confirm the mouse and keyboard are on and try clicking and/or pressing a button. The computer may have fallen asleep.
      • Make sure that ‘PC’ is selected on the controller.
        • You may also try selecting a different source, waiting a couple seconds, and then select ‘PC’ again.
          • This is often caused by the source being selected while the system was still warming up, often indicated by the ‘On’ button on the controller slowly flashing.
  • Projector
    • Device isn't displaying.
      • Make sure the proper input is selected. Try the other inputs as well.
        • Try changing inputs, then switch back to the "proper" input.
        • Some rooms have a projector Mute button, make sure this isn't selected (if red, press the mute button again to turn off).
      • Make sure the device is powered on.
      • Make sure the device is awake by clicking the mouse, moving the mouse, and or pressing the space bar on the keyboard.
      • Double check device connections.
        • If you are using an adapter, try unplugging and re-plugging the connection.
        • If you are using HDMI or VGA directly, try unplugging and re-plugging the connection.
  • Audio/Speakers
    • There’s no sound.
      • Check the volume knob on the controller and confirm it is turned up. Turning the knob clockwise increases volume.
      • Check the volume control of the device. Is it turned up all the way? Muted?
      • Check the volume control of any programs you might be using, such as YouTube, QuickTime, or VLC Player.
      • If you are connected via VGA:
        • Is the headphone jack properly plugged in your computer as well as the Black Box?
        • Make sure proper audio output is selected within your audio settings of your device.
      • If you are connected via HDMI:
        • Is the HDMI properly plugged in?
        • Make sure proper audio output is selected within your audio settings of your device.
    • Crackling sound.
      • Make sure the connection is properly seated.
