PaperCut Print Deploy error "Well this is awkward ... The Print Deploy Client can't find the servers..."

After right-clicking on the Print Deploy icon on the Desktop and clicking View my printers, the Print Deploy Window pops up with the error: "Well this is awkward The Print Deploy Client can't find the servers! Check your network connection and click Try again. To check the Print Deploy client status, click its icon in the system tray. We'll try again in 13 seconds" The most common cause is that the Print Deploy Client has fallen too far behind in updates.

Solution 

Re-install the Print Deploy Client 

Windows

  1. Open up Software Center
  2. Search for PaperCut Print Deploy and click on the latest version available
  3. Click Uninstall (if Uninstall fails, you can uninstall using Add/Remove Programs)
  4. Click Install to install through Software Center

macOS

  1. Open up the UMS Application Catalog
  2. Search for "PaperCut"
  3. Select the "PaperCut Client & Print Deploy" installer

Re-install the latest Print Deploy Client Manually

Windows

  1. Download the PaperCut Print Deploy Client for Windows.
  2. Open cmd prompt as admin
  3. Run the installer 

msiexec /i <installer>.msi SKIP_DPM=true

  1. follow the installation wizard instructions.
WARNING: When prompted to login to PaperCut Print Deploy Client during the installation, make sure to use your UMS user credentials.

macOS

  1. Download the  PaperCut Print Deploy Client for macOS.
  2. Open the .dmg and run the installer.
WARNING: When prompted to login to PaperCut Print Deploy Client during the installation, make sure to use your UMS user credentials.
  1. Open a Terminal and switch to an admin user, then run the following commands:

defaults write ~/Documents/com.papercut.printdeploy.client skip_dpm true

defaults write ~/Documents/com.papercut.printdeploy.client server_host print.maine.edu

cp ~/Documents/com.papercut.printdeploy.client.plist /Library/Managed\ Preferences/com.papercut.printdeploy.client.plist

If still unresolved

  • Open a ticket with the Help Desk
    • include hostname of the computer
    • include the Print Deploy log
      • Windows - C:\Program Files\PaperCut Print Deploy Client\data\logs\pc-print-deploy-client.log
      • macOS -  /Applications/PaperCut Print Deploy Client/data/logs/pc-print-deploy-client.log
