Body
These directions will guide you through activating UMS MFA on your iOS smart device.
Instructions
- On your smart device or phone: Download the Duo Mobile Application from the Apple App Store
WARNING: Click the link above to install the correct application onto your iOS device. If you search for "Duo Mobile" in the Apple App Store, ensure you are selecting "Duo Mobile" from "Duo Security LLC" and not any other application that may appear as an advertisement at the top of the list.
- Using a computer: Visit accounts.maine.edu and select "Manage my MFA Profile"
- If required, authenticate using your UMS account
- When prompted, select the "Enroll" button
- At the "Protect your University of Maine System Account", click "Start Setup"
- When asked "What type of device are you adding?" -- Choose "Tablet"
Regardless of whether your smart device is a phone or a tablet, we recommend you choose "Tablet" to avoid being prompted for your mobile device number. UMS MFA does not utilize the phone number to provide MFA.
- When asked "What type of tablet are you adding?" -- Chose "iOS"
- Select "I have the Duo Mobile App Installed"
- Launch the Duo Mobile application on your device, and select the "Add" option
- Follow the on-screen directions to activate your mobile application
- When your device is activated, a green check will appear on the screen
- Click "Continue"
- During the early adoption period after you complete these steps there is an internal manual step before MFA is fully active on your account.
If your MFA status at https://accounts.maine.edu/mfa says "You are enrolled in multi-factor authentication, but you should not be receiving an MFA prompt while authenticating." that step has yet to be performed and you will need to wait (for up to 1 business day) until your MFA status changes to "You are enrolled in multi-factor authentication, and you should be receiving an MFA prompt while authenticating."
Environment
- Duo Multi-factor Authentication
