Users at all seven University of Maine System (UMS) universities and the University of Maine School of Law can use the eduroam (“eduroam” SSID) Wi-Fi network UMS-wide or when traveling to another participating institution worldwide using their @maine.edu email address and password.
Eduroam is a federation of network authentication servers that allow users at participating institutions to access a WPA2 Enterprise encrypted (or “locked”) Wi-Fi network with a common name (the “eduroam” SSID). Eduroam is a global service. To see participating institutions, please visit:

INFO: These instructions are for Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) devices, not university-managed devices. The initial set-up for university-managed devices has already been completed.
Initial Set-up
- Log in to your computer with an account that has administrator rights.
- Click the network icon in the system tray to view the list of available wired and wireless networks.
- Click eduroam to expand the listing, then click Connect.
- Log in using your UMS (email) credentials to begin the process. You must include @maine.edu as part of your username.
- Follow the instructions on each page carefully and wait for each step to complete.
INFO: You can now use eduroam UMS-wide or participating institutions globally. Access will be denied if your password is expired.
INFO: If you would like your computer to connect automatically to eduroam as its Wi-Fi network, make sure the Connect automatically check box is selected.
Troubleshooting
- Ensure you are not connected to a VPN
- Temporarily disable 3rd party firewall, anti-malware, or antivirus applications during initial set-up
- Check for network card (NIC) driver updates from your NIC card manufacturer
