Detailed Information

Official Residency of a student often determines tuition rate; however, Additional Residency Data may determine a differential tuition rate from the official residency (for example, an out-of-state student in a NEBHE program is charged the NEBHE tuition rate rather than the out-of-state rate). Residency is first populated at the time the student is admitted and is updated only by the admissions or bursar's offices. Below is an image of the data entry screen where a student's residency for tuition billing is determined. There are two main areas of the Residency Official 1 tab in MaineStreet, which are referred to as "Above the Line" and "Below the Line." Additional Residency Data is below the line. The Residency value (#4) entered above the line also auto-fills the left hand column below the line (#s 5, 7, 9, & 11)

providing a visual representation of the various residency types location on the Residency Data screen. More detail of the residency types is listed in the table below.

The fields below are numbered corresponding to the orange numbers in the Residency Official 1 data entry screen shown above. As mentioned previously, values on the left below the line autofill based on the Residency value entered in #4, but may change depending on any exceptions (#s 6, 8, 10 & 12) or if residency (#4) changes with a new term.

The Shared Processing Residency Table ( also attached at the right of the article) is used to determine what to enter both above and below the line. The values in the table are separated by a forward slash which indicates above/below the line. For example if the student is a Maine Resident the table shows "In-State/In-State". The student would have in-state entered above the line for the residency field, which would auto-fill in-state for the residency fields below the line.
