Access & Sync OneDrive for work or school on your personal iPhone & iPad device(s)

The OneDrive app lets you reach your University of Maine System (UMS) files from your iPhone or iPad. Here is how to install it and sign in.

Instructions

Install and sign in

  1. Install Microsoft OneDrive from the App Store.
  2. Open the app and tap Sign in.
  3. Enter your UMS username followed by @maine.edu. Do this no matter what your email address is.
  4. Enter your UMS password.
WARNING: On the sign-in pages, tap nothing other than Next and Sign in. Other options can route you to a personal Microsoft account and the sign-in will fail.

You can now browse and open the files in your UMS OneDrive. The app shows files from the cloud rather than keeping copies on your device, so you need a connection to open them.

Editing documents

To open or edit a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file, install that app from the App Store as well. They are free with your UMS Microsoft 365 account. Sign in to each one the same way, using your UMS username followed by @maine.edu.

If the app will not install

OneDrive needs a recent version of iOS or iPadOS. If the App Store will not let you install it, your device is likely below the current minimum. Check Microsoft's OneDrive system requirements (External Link) page.

The requirement applies to new installations. If OneDrive is already on your device, you can usually keep updating it even when a fresh install would not be allowed. That is why a colleague on an older device may still have a working app.

WARNING: Sync should only be used for data that is not restricted under the UMS Data Classification policy (External Link), or otherwise disallowed by your department. Direct questions to the Information Security Office (External Link).
