Using a Code Generator for Multi-factor Authentication

A "Code Generator" allows an individual to complete Multi-factor Authentication without using the Duo Mobile App.

How do I get a code generator?

• Code Generating Tokens are available for pickup at many campus locations. Those can be located in the IT Walk-up Help Locations and Hours knowledge base article. 
  • The list of current locations can be bound in the "Where can I obtain a MFA code generating token?" knowledge base article.
• Request one from the IT Helpdesk at (800) 696-4357 or at help@maine.edu.

Does it need to be registered?  How do I register it?

• Yes, the code generator will need to be registered before it can be used.
• The How Do I Register a Code Generator token for use with MFA? article provides instructions for registering a token.

Do I have to pay for it?

• IT will be providing a limited stock of code generators for faculty and staff who request it. Contact the IT Helpdesk at (800) 696-4357 or at help@maine.edu.

Can you mail a security key or code generator to me?

• IT can arrange for a code generator to be shipped to individuals who request it.
• Please be aware that a shipping cost may be incurred by the individual or department requesting the code generator.
