Print jobs are defaulting to A4 or A3 paper size

Sometimes users find that their print jobs are defaulting to A4 or A3 paper size. When this is not due to a setting on the driver or the printer it is often either an Operating System configuration or in some cases an application default.

Solution

Configure the Default Paper Size on your computer


1. Change the default paper size for your computer to LTR (Letter)

macOS

  1. Click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of the screen and select System Preferences.
  2. Click Printers & Scanners
  3. Toward the bottom of the window, locate the option labeled Default Paper Size and click the drop-down menu beside it
  4. Select US Letter
  5. Once selected, you can close the System Preferences window

Windows 10

INFO: Windows default paper size is a per printer configuration, so will need to be done for each printer driver configuration

  1. Open Settings
  2. Click on the printer 
  3. Click Manage
  4. Click on Printing Preferences 
  5. Select Advanced...
  6. Under Paper/OutPut, select Paper Size and then select Letter
  7. Click OK
  8. Repeat as needed for any other printers

Configure the default Paper Size in Chrome

  1. Click the three dots ... in the upper-right of the Chrome browser 
  2. Expand More settings
  3. Then select the correct size from the drop-down menu for Paper Size (generally Letter)
  4. Click Print
