Viscosity error: Background Service Not Running

You may receive an error message from Viscosity after updating. This typically happens on Windows machines.

ERROR MESSAGE:  "Background Service Not Running. Viscosity has detected that its background service is not currently running. This must be running to enable a VPN connection to be established. Would you like Viscosity to attempt to start the background service now?"

Instructions

1. Restart your computer. If you continue to receive the error message, continue to Step 2.
2. Uninstall Viscosity by following these instructions: Uninstall or remove apps and programs in Windows (external link)
3. Reinstall Viscosity by following these instructions: How to Connect Remotely using the Remote Access VPN
4. If you still run into issues, go to search in the lower left of the Windows toolbar and check for updates. Make sure to select to check online, and run all required updates.
