How to Print & Pay when Card Services are Down

During cards services (Transact) system maintenance or outages, ID card swipes will be disabled at printers. You must log in manually using one of the methods below. Additionally, during these periods:

  • You will not be able to pay for printing with personal funds
  • Faculty & staff, or others with existing department shared accounts, may continue to select those
  • Students will have temporary access to the "UMS08/Transact Upgrade" shared account
  • Guest/Copy cards will not work (please ask staff for assistance with printing needs)

Manual Printing Instructions

Step 1: Access the Manual Login Screen

  1. At the Xerox device, tap the "Keyboard" icon on the touch panel.

Step 2: Choose a Login Method

Option 1 requires an initial visit to a website to get a reusable PIN code, but will result in faster logins for those who print often. Option 2 will take longer to enter the user ID and password at the device but may work well for someone who doesn't print much.

Option 1: Reusable PIN (Recommended)
  1. Online: Visit print.maine.edu → "Change Details" → Generate 5-digit PIN
    Note: Off-campus? Connect to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) first

  2. At printer: Enter your 5-digit PIN

Option 2: Username Login

  1. At printer: Tap keyboard icon → Enter @maine.edu username and password. Don't worry, your password won't be visible!
    Note: Username can be with or without @maine.edu. 


Step 3: Access Your Print Jobs

  1. After login confirmation ("Welcome, Your Name!"), press Print Release

Step 4: Select Your Document

  1. Press > arrow next to desired document

Step 5: Choose a Shared Account

  1. Press the pencil icon next to "Account" in the job details

Students: Select the "UMS08 – Transact Upgrade" shared account (you may need to select the most recent dated account.

Faculty, staff, and others: Select your normal department account

 

Step 6: Print Your Document

  1. Verify the shared account you selected displays
  2. Make any printing changes desired (e.g. number of copies or page size)
  3. Press Print
