McGoldrick 203 - Salons A, B, & C

This will outline the details and basic tips and tricks for operating the equipment in McGoldrick Multipurpose Room 203, Salons A, B, & C.

Details

McGoldrick Room 203 is a multipurpose, multi-section room located on the USM Portland Campus. You can operate most of the audiovisual (AV) equipment from the touch panels located in each salon. Other pieces of in-room equipment include:

  • Computers
  • LCD Projectors
  • Laptop Connection (HDMI)
  • Speakers
  • Handheld Microphones
  • LAV Microphones
  • Ceiling Microphones
  • PTZ Cameras
  • Wireless Mouse
  • Wireless Keyboard
  • Clicker

Operating the Equipment

Each salon has a control station with a touch panel, wall plate, and holding bin for peripheral devices, including a wireless keyboard, mouse, and slide clicker. When you first arrive, the touch panel may appear as a black screen, but should turn on automatically once it senses movement.

A pillar with a sign at the top with the ITMS phone number 780-4280. Under that is a touch panel, a plastic holding bin with a keyboard, mouse, and clicker inside, a hook with an HDMI table looped around it, which then connects to a wall panel at the bottom.

Turning on the System

When you're ready, click the button that says "Press to Begin" at the bottom of the touch screen.

Select System Mode

The next screen will prompt you to select a System Mode. You have two options:

Presentation Mode will turn on both the projector and all of the salon's audio, including microphones and speakers. As part of this process, the screen should descend from the ceiling and the touch panel will briefly change to a loading screen.

Audio Only Mode will only turn on the salon's audio systems, leaving the screen up and the projector off.

Room Selection (Salon C Only)

If you are using the touch panel in Salon C, you will also be given the option to select multiple rooms.

You may use Salon C independently, combine Salons B & C, or combine Salons A, B, & C. If you are using audio, this will automatically project audio to all selected salons. It will also allow you to access the equipment in those salons, including projectors, microphones, and cameras.

Operating the Touch Panel

Once the system has loaded, you should be presented with the following screen.

Touch panel main menu, described in further detail below.

Input Select: The buttons on the top of the screen show a series of inputs that will allow you to select which device will display on the projector. From left to right, your options are:

  • Instructor PC: The in-room PC.
  • Wallplate: The device currently plugged in to the salon's wallplate via the HDMI connection.
  • ScreenCast: The device currently connected to the system via Screenbeam.

Volume: The sidebar to the right of the screen allows you to control the volume of the salon's speakers. The gray and white bar is a visual indicator of the room's current volume setting. At the top, it will tell you which device system's audio is playing from.  You may also tap the speaker at the bottom of the volume bar to mute the audio.

Help: At the bottom left of the right sidebar is a blue question mark. This is the Help button. When you select this, it will bring up a submenu with a phone number for Media Services, if you require assistance.

Power: At the bottom right of the right sidebar is the Power button. When you select this button the system will prompt you with three options. From left to right:

  • Power Down. Power down the system when you are done with your presentation. Described in more detail below.
  • Change Mode. Change the System Mode.
  • Cancel. Cancel your selection and return to the previous menu.

Video Mute: On the top of the left sidebar is a small slider. You can tap it to mute and unmute the projector. This will not turn the projector off, but it will turn off the display.

Settings: Below Video Mute on the left sidebar are a selection of categories that you can choose from. Each of these options will open a submenu where you can adjust settings. From top to bottom:

  • Projector: This submenu shows you all the projectors that you have access to and gives you three options:
    • You may choose to turn the salon's projector On or Off.
    • You may Mute the projector. This will not turn the projector off, but it will turn off the display.
    • You can choose to Raise or Lower the projector screen using the up and down arrow, respectively.
  • Cameras: Control the salon's cameras.
    • While in the camera settings, the touch panel's background will match the Camera View.
    • At the top of the touch panel, you can Select the camera you wish to use.
    • In the bottom left are Camera Presets. Each preset is assigned a number from 1 to 3 and will automatically adjust the camera to one of three common positions.
    • At the bottom right are the Camera Controls. You can use the four arrows to pan and tilt the camera, while you can use the plus and minus buttons underneath to zoom the camera in and out.
  • Audio / Mics: Controls the salon's microphones.
    • At the top left, you have the option to Mute Ceiling Mics. Each salon is equipped with microphones that hang down from the ceiling, picking up audio from everywhere in the space. Select this option if you would prefer to mute those microphones.
    • In the center are Volume sliders for microphones:
      • LAV microphones, also known as lapel microphones. Each salon has its own LAV mic. You may find these microphones in Salon C's AV closet in the left hand rack.
      • Handheld (HH) microphones, sometimes considered to be the "classic" microphone. Each salon has its own handheld mic. You may find these microphones in Salon C's AV closet in the left hand rack.
      • The Crowd Mic (Salon C Only) controls the volume of microphones connected via the Crowd Mic app. This is muted by default.
      • Lobby (Salon C Only) controls the volume of the speakers out in the lobby. This is muted by default.

You may close out of any of these submenus by hitting the Close (X) button at the top right of the submenu.

Power Down the System

Best practice is to always power down the system once you are finished with the room's equipment.

  • If you used the in-room PC, please make sure that you sign out of the computer prior to shutting down the system.
  • On the touch panel, press the Power button in the bottom right corner. You will presented with a confirmation screen. If you are sure that you are done with the room's equipment, hit the Power Down button on the left to confirm your selection. You will be presented with another loading screen as the system takes its time to shut down.
    • As part of the process, the projector will be turned off and the screen will raise back up.
  • If you used any of the room's wireless microphones, please return them to their charging station.
