This article provides historical information regarding the 2020 Data Governance project focused on establishing a consistent, reliable method for recording and identifying the location of Early College courses. This will improve standard reporting, align these facilities across all UMS institutions and make it easier for UMS data to be moved into the ExplorEC system that high school students use to apply for Early College coursework.

February 2020 Proposal Forum
Early College - Facility Proposal
PowerPoint (slides 1-4)
Justin Young presented the Early College - Facility proposal that is designed to establish a consistent, reliable method for recording and identifying the location of Early College courses. This will improve standard reporting, align these facilities across all UMS institutions, and make it easier for UMS data to be moved into the ExplorEC system that high school students use to apply for Early College coursework.
Notes
-
A question was asked about whether or not this will change the historical data to align with the new coding. This will be investigated with IT on the impact of changing those entries on historical data, and what data cleanup options there might be.
-
A question was asked about whether or not the proposed changes will affect the 25 Live scheduling program used by some campuses. The workgroup will investigate this; however, the proposal has already been seen by the Registrars and no concerns were raised so far.
-
A question was asked about whether or not our new coding will align with the Department of Education for data sharing, and potentially a future data sharing agreement. Every facility has a facility ID associated with it that varies by institution, which will change with this as well. The group will look into the ID numbers the DOE has as a possibility.
-
A comment was provided about the use of external org IDs which is maintained for all seven campuses which could be used for this because it is related to the facility table.
-
A question was raised about courses in high schools that are not Early College. The reporting would be based on sections that are associated with Early College for reporting. This cleanup would include all high school IDs in case there are new courses developed with new high schools.
Resolution Summary
Establish a consistent, reliable method for recording and identifying the location of Early College courses. This will improve standard reporting, align these facilities across all UMS institutions and make it easier for UMS data to be moved into the ExplorEC system that high school students use to apply for Early College coursework.
