UMS:IT is tasked with helping university areas acquire and deploy technology in an effective manner and in compliance with University policies. Technologies employed by the university as part of a course, program, or other activity are subject to compliance with university policies. Examples of compliance requirements include protecting university information, ensuring equal opportunity for persons with disabilities, and pre-implementation analysis of complex initiatives.
Typically, the form is completed by the "sponsor" (or their designee) who will be using or overseeing the use of the technology and is usually not an IT employee. Completion of the form is needed once the specific product/solution is known, but prior to acquisition so that suitable reviews can be accomplished for the purposes of Information Security, Digital Accessibility, IT integration needs, or the existence of already available solutions.
The review process is administered by the IT Business Operations team and includes request intake processing, oversight of sub-reviews, and request fulfillment through the ticket generated by the request form. See Information Technology Review Overview for more information about the process.
