On an iPhone or iPad, you can have at most three password or passkey apps turned on for AutoFill at once. If you try to turn on a fourth, iOS will not let you until you turn one of the active three off.
Detailed Information
Apple limits how many AutoFill providers can run at the same time. You can mix and match — for example, the Passwords app, 1Password, and Bitwarden can all be on together — but three is the ceiling. When you try to add a fourth, iPhone will prompt you to turn one of the existing apps off first.
INFO: The standalone Passwords app is available on iOS 18 and later. On iOS 17, the same passwords and passkeys are managed through iCloud Keychain rather than a separate app.
How to see and change your active apps
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap General, then tap AutoFill & Passkeys.
- On some iOS versions the path is Settings > Passwords > Password Options instead.
- Under "Allow Filling From," turn your preferred apps on or off.
💡 Tip: Keep it to one or two apps
Even though iOS allows three at once, running several third-party apps together can cause them to compete over which one appears at your login screen. For the smoothest experience, keep only one or two turned on.
