Instructions for activating a UMS @maine.edu account.
Instructions
- Go to the User Account Management page – click on the "Activate your account" link.
- You will see the words "Activation Key Required" in parentheses
- Enter your student identification number (aka "EMPLID")
- This is a unique 7 digit number assigned to you by the University (number starts with a one or a zero). If this is your first time activating your account, your student identification number should have been mailed to you.
- Enter your activation key
- This is a case sensitive alphanumeric code either sent to you after registration or given to you by Techsupport.
- To obtain an activation key call the UMS Help Desk at 1-800-696-4357 or 207-621-4357.
- You will be required to verify your identity prior to obtaining your activation key.
- Press continue.
- You will have to enter your student id number and activation key on the next page.
- You will need to enter your date of birth in the exact format two digit month / two digit day / four digit year.
- You will then be prompted to create a password.
- The password must be at least eight characters long with at least one number and one capital letter; the number can not be the first character (example: P@ssword01).
- You will be prompted to enter three questions and answers.
- The three questions can all be the same and you must complete all three.
- Please remember that you may not need to answer these questions for 3 or 4 years.
- Try and avoid anything time sensitive or with too many possible ways to answer. It may not be the best idea to enter the question "What did I have for breakfast today?". "What town was I born in?" may be a better choice.
- Click on activate account.
- If all information was entered properly, you will get a congratulations screen with your username and University email address.
- Note: You can access the University email at Gmail in about an 15 - 30 minutes.
- It will take up to 2-hours before you can access the Brightspace or MaineStreet.
- Do not place the @maine.edu extension after your username.
DANGER: Error with no description pertains to the date of birth field either entered incorrectly or not being entered in the UMS database. Students will need to contact enrollment for their campus to update their date of birth information, Employees will need to contact their campus HR department.
