Users at University of Maine System campuses with “@maine.edu” email addresses can use the Eduroam (“eduroam” SSID) Wi-Fi service at University of Maine System Campuses, or when traveling to another participating institution.
Users from other institutions can use UMS campuses' Wi-Fi with the credentials from their home institutions. Eduroam is federation of network authentication servers that allow users at participating institutions to access a WPA2 Enterprise encrypted (or “locked”) Wi-Fi network with a common name (the “eduroam” SSID). Instructions for how to connect to the EduRoam Wi-Fi network from a Windows computer are below.

INFO: These instructions are for Bring Your OWN Device (BYOD) and NOT university-managed devices. University Managed devices have already had the initial set-up completed for them.
Initial Set-up
- Log in to your computer with an account that has administrator rights.
- Click the network icon in the system tray to view the list of available wired and wireless networks.
- Click eduroam to expand the listing, then click Connect.
- Log in using your UMS (email) credentials to begin the process. You must include @maine.edu as part of your username.
- Follow the instructions on each page carefully and wait for each step to complete.
INFO: You can now use the eduroam SSID at UMS campuses or remote participating institutions globally, although access will be denied if your password is expired.
INFO: If you would like your computer to connect automatically to eduroam as its Wi-Fi network, make sure the Connect automatically check box is selected.
Troubleshooting
- Ensure you are not connected to a VPN
- Temporarily disable 3rd party firewall, anti-malware or antivirus applications during initial set-up
- Check for network card (NIC) driver updates from your NIC card manufacturer
