How to install an optional direct print queue to a Xerox printer on a University-managed device

University staff or faculty may have a printer near them that they regularly use for printer or use advanced features on a printer that requires the model-specific. In these cases, they can install the optional direct print queue for the printer using the Print Deploy client. 

On Windows, the UMS-FindMe queue driver already supports:

  • color or grayscale* 
    • requires that you release the job at a color printer for color printing
  • duplex or single sided
  • paper size selection
  • Paper tray selection
  • stapling**
    • stapling is not available on Versalink printers
  • hole punch

On macOS, the UMS-FindMe queue already supports:

  • color or grayscale* 
    • requires that you release the job at a color printer for color printing
  • duplex or single sided
  • paper size selection
  • Paper tray selection

Although for users that require advanced printing features beyond these, an optional direct print queue is available for install.

Instructions

  1. Right-click on the Print Deploy Client icon (looks like a green printer)

  • On Windows, located in the lower right system tray

  • On macOS, located in the upper right of the Desktop.

  1. Click View my printers 
  2. In the left of the window that pops up, click Add printers
    • Print Deploy Window with Add Printers selected from left navigation and 300 Fore in search box in upper right and  printers from search results listed below
    • WARNING: If you search and don't find any printers, make sure you clicked Add Printers from the left pane first. 
  3. Using the search at the top right of the window, type in your campus abbreviation to filter the list by campus, then scroll through the results to find the desired printer and click Install to the right of it.
  4. Once the printer has been installed, select the newly installed printer queue when printing to print to it.
  5. Release the job at the printer as usual.

Troubleshooting 

Print Deploy prompts for Sign-In after clicking Install

  • If the Install button changes to a Sign-in button after being clicked to install the queue, then click Sign-in and enter your UMS credentials.

Print job sent to Direct queue gets paused for authentication
