This article explains who is automatically eligible to enroll in Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and how individuals can check their eligibility status.

How to Check Your MFA Eligibility

  1. Go to the MFA Manager.
  2. Log in with your University of Maine System (UMS) username and password.
  3. Check the message on the page:
    • Enroll button appears: You are eligible for MFA but have not yet enrolled. Follow the MFA enrollment instructions to complete setup.
    • Ineligible or not eligible message appears: You are not currently eligible. If you believe you should be eligible, submit the MFA Add/Enroll Request form.

 

Who Is Eligible for MFA?

The following groups are automatically eligible for Multi-Factor Authentication:

Group Description
Regular Employees All full-time and part-time “regular” employees, as defined by Human Resources.
Knowledge Workers Employees with a title code indicating they regularly work with UMS data or electronic resources.
Contractors and Consultants Contractor or consultant users listed as Person of Interest (POI). Enrollment is optional.
University of Maine (Orono) Students Students eligible to enroll in the current or upcoming academic term.
INFO: Generally those outside of the groups listed above are not able to enroll in MFA at this time.
If you believe you are in one of these groups or have been instructed to enroll in MFA by a service owner and are not able enroll in MFA, submit the MFA Add/Enroll Request form.
