How to enter Instructor Load Factor in MaineStreet

Scope: This article will cover the steps for entering the instructor load factor into the MaineStreet system.

Purpose: This article supplies detailed documentation on how to enter instructor Load factor into the MaineStreet System.

Detailed Information

The Instructor Load factor is used for tracking the teaching split for those classes listing multiple instructors in MaineStreet.

For definition, click MaineStreet.

Responsible academic units, schools, departments, or divisions on each campus will receive a list of their classes each term shortly after add/drop, containing those which are taught by multiple instructors. For each section, the academic unit enters the percentage of the course section taught by each instructor.  No data entry is required for classes taught by one instructor, therefore they should not show on your list. This is also a mechanism for designating non-teaching individuals listed on a section for administrative purposes. Data must be finalized between Add/Drop and census.

For definition, click census.

Navigating to Instructor Workload screen

  • After logging into MaineStreet, (MyCampus > MaineStreet icon in the launchpad) navigate to the Instructor Workload Entry page:
  • Enterprise Applications  > Campus Solutions 9.2 Production Database CSPRD > University of Maine System > Records and Enrollment > Instructor Workload Entry
  • If you cannot see the Instructor Workload Entry link listed on the Records & Enrollment page, you can request access from your campus Security Liaison through following the Campus Solutions Access Requests article.

Searching for a class

  • Using available search options, enter the desired criteria from the list you received of courses taught by multiple instructors. At a minimum, enter the academic institution, term, and subject area, then continue adding information in order to narrow your search. When ready, select the Search button:
  • From the search results, select the class section that requires load entry:

Entering the Load Factor

  • The default value for single-instructor course sections is set at 100%, which means that no data entry is required for single-instructor courses. For those sections with multiple instructors, the default values are kept blank, allowing campuses, academic units, departments and divisions to update their load factor data between add/drop and census, ensuring that all census data includes the accurate instructional split information.
  • The Load Factor % for each Meeting Pattern # must always total 100.
  • Although there is space for decimals, enter whole numbers only.

Team-taught Sections (multiple instructors)

  • Select an Assignment Type from the drop down list and enter the Load Factor % for each meeting pattern number and instructor as appropriate. Load Factor entry is not required for a Class Section with a single listed instructor.
  • For multiple listed instructors that are teaching, select TCH (teaching) in the Assignment Type column and enter the Load Factor % of the class section taught by each instructor. This could be any percentage for each instructor as long as the total value is 100. For example, if a course is team-taught equally by three instructors, they all receive the TCH assignment type and 33 for two, and 34 for one of them to equal 100%. You will receive an error message if your load factor % does not equal 100.
  • Once complete, choose either the yellow Next in List button to proceed to the next class section displayed in the search results list, or the Return to Search button to search for sections for another class.

Non-teaching Instructors

  • If an instructor or instructors are properly listed for administrative purposes only and are not teaching, enter NTC (not teaching) in the Assignment Type column and 0 for the Load Factor %.
  • The instructor or instructors who are teaching should all have the TCH (teaching) Assignment Type and have Load Factor % values which add up to 100.
  • Once complete, choose either the yellow Next in List button to proceed to the next class section displayed in the search results list, or the Return to Search button to search for sections for another class.

Multiple Meeting Patterns

  • Example of a class section with multiple meeting patterns. Each meeting pattern must have a total Load Factor % of 100.
