Online Modality: Project Background and accessing Campus Solutions

Detailed Information

Background

As part of the University of Maine System’s (UMS) strategic initiative to improve reporting on online programs and degrees, the Institutional Research (IR) office has identified the need for a sustainable solution.  Our Student Information (MaineStreet) system lacked the functionality to identify academic programs, plans, and subplans by online modality, resulting in a manual, time-intensive process for compiling reports on online offerings. This challenge became increasingly unsustainable as UMS continues to expand its online academic portfolio. The Online Modality Tag project focused on designing and implementing a sustainable solution to support accurate, efficient, and scalable reporting of online programs. The implemented solution enabled institutional stakeholders to quickly access reliable data on UMS’s online offerings.

Implemented Solution

The implemented solution consists of a Common Attribute Framework (CAF) field in the Production Environment (CSPRD) of Campus Solutions. Due to the unique data needs of UMS’s institutions, the CAF filed was placed on the Academic Program, Academic Plan, and Academic Subplan screens. The following instructions provide the steps needed to access and use the new flags. If there are any questions or comments, please reach out to UMS.Data.Governance@maine.edu.
