[MFA Modernization Pilot] Add MFA Sign-in Method: Passkey on iPhone or iPad (iOS)

This article walks you through adding a passkey to your University of Maine System (UMS) account using an iPhone or iPad. A passkey lets you sign in using your device's biometrics (such as Face ID or Touch ID) or your device PIN instead of a password.

Instructions

  1. 📱 On your iPhone or iPad, open your browser and go to aka.ms/mysecurityinfo. Sign in if prompted.
  2. 📱 Under "Security info," tap Add sign-in method.
  3. 📱 In the "Add a sign-in method" menu, select Passkey, then tap Add.
  4. 📱 In the "Sign in faster with your face, fingerprint, or PIN" dialog, tap Next.
  5. 📱 In the "Setting up your passkey" dialog, tap Next.
  6. 📱 If prompted with a "Save a passkey?" sheet, tap Save in Passwords, then tap Add Passkey to confirm.
  7. 📱 In the "Let's name your passkey" box, enter a name for your passkey (for example, "iPhone" or "iPad"), then tap Next.
  8. 📱 In the "Passkey created" confirmation box, tap Done.
  9. 📱 You should now see Passkey (Synced) listed under your sign-in methods.

You have successfully added a passkey as an MFA method for your UMS account.

Environment

  • Applies to all University of Maine System (UMS) accounts
  • iPhone or iPad running iOS 17 or later
  • iCloud account (signed in, with iCloud Passwords enabled)
