Why Are There Quotas?
Google is no longer providing Workspace for Higher Education customers free unlimited storage for faculty, staff, and students. The University of Maine System has been allocated a pool of storage in the Google Workspace Cloud environment, which is used by University GMail, Google Drive, Takeout, Photos, and other Google Workspace products. Quotas have been imposed to clarify the limitations of this storage resource.
Quotas for Existing Users
We have set the quotas so that each Personal or Shared drive would have at least 10% space remaining at the time they were set. At the time of writing, formal procedures for requesting and granting quota increases are not yet in place.
If you can review and delete content that is no longer needed, it would be helpful in remaining under the University's storage limit. Additionally, please consider if content belongs to a Department and not an individual—moving it to a shared drive if that would be more appropriate. This helps to recognise, remove, and prevent unnecessary duplicate content.
If you get within 5% of your allocation, let us know and we will consider your request for an increase.
