[MFA Modernization Pilot] Add MFA Sign-in Method: Passkey in Google Password Manager (Chrome)

This article walks you through adding a passkey to your University of Maine System (UMS) account using Google Password Manager in Chrome. Once set up, you can sign in using your fingerprint, face recognition, or device PIN on any device signed in to the same Google account.

Before You Begin

You will need all of the following before starting:

  • 💻 Google Chrome browser (latest version)
  • 💻 A Google account signed in to Chrome

Instructions

  1. 💻 In Google Chrome, go to aka.ms/mysecurityinfo. Sign in if prompted.
  2. 💻 Under "Security info," click Add sign-in method.
  3. 💻 In the "Add a sign-in method" box, select Passkey, then click Add.
  4. 💻 In the "Sign in faster with your face, fingerprint, or PIN" dialog, click Next.
  5. 💻 In the "Create a passkey to sign in to login.microsoft.com" box, click Create.
  6. 💻 If this is your first time saving a passkey to Google Password Manager, you will be prompted to create a recovery PIN. Enter a PIN you will remember, then click Confirm. You will see a "Passkey saved and PIN created" confirmation message.
  7. 💻 In the "Let's name your passkey" box, enter a name for your passkey (for example, "Chrome" or "Work laptop"), then click Next.
  8. 💻 In the "Passkey created" confirmation box, click Done.
  9. 💻 You should now see Passkey (Synced) listed under your sign-in methods.

You have successfully added a passkey as an MFA method for your UMS account.
