This article explains who is automatically eligible to enroll in Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and how to check your eligibility status.

INFO: This article applies only to the user populations listed below. It does not apply to students. If you are a student, see Am I Eligible for Microsoft Entra Multi-Factor Authentication? instead.

The following groups are automatically eligible for Duo MFA:

Group	Description
Regular Employees	All full-time and part-time "regular" employees, as defined by Human Resources.
Knowledge Workers	Employees with a title code indicating they regularly work with UMS data or electronic resources.
Contractors and Consultants	Contractor or consultant users listed as Person of Interest (POI). Enrollment is optional.

Go to the MFA Manager.
Sign in with your University of Maine System (UMS) username and password.
Check the message on the page:
- Enroll button appears: You are eligible for Duo MFA but have not yet enrolled. Follow the Duo MFA enrollment instructions to complete setup.
- Ineligible or not eligible message appears: See "If the Enroll Button Doesn't Appear" below.

If you believe you should be eligible for Duo MFA based on the groups listed above, submit the MFA Add Request form.
If you are not eligible for Duo MFA and don't expect to be, but you still want or need MFA, see Get Started with Microsoft Authenticator to set up Microsoft Entra MFA instead.
